    Mark has over 20 years experience in advising small and medium-sized businesses and their owners on tax matters, and is a Chartered Accountant and Chartered Taxation Practitioner. As well as advising on planning issues across the range of UK taxes, Mark also represents clients facing investigation by the taxman, and appears at contentious hearings on behalf of clients in respect of VAT and other taxes.

    Also an avid networker, with a wide range of business contacts that he puts to use for the benefit of his clients and networking contacts, Mark is a familiar figure at a wide range of networking events.

    He is married to a fellow Chartered Accountant and has two young children, plays real tennis ("ranked 600 out of 500 players in the world"), supports Altrincham FC, Lancashire County Cricket Club and Manchester Phoenix Ice Hockey Club ("how much pain can a man take?"), and is on the boards of 24:7 Theatre Arts Network Limited and Salford City Radio. He is also active in Manchester Business Breakfast Club, the Chapel Street Business Group, Manchester Tennis & Racquets Club and All Saints with Ringway Parochial Church Council.     Mark joined us, having clocked up 22 year’s experience of working within Public Practice. He is used to dealing with a variety of audit and non-audit regulated owner managed businesses. As head of our Business Services team, Mark and his team focus on servicing the business needs of their clients. In addition to audit and accountancy work this includes handling Corporation Tax and VAT matters, bookkeeping, payroll and company secretarial.

    As Financial Director, for Simpson Burgess Nash, Mark undertook a leading role in our Management Buy Out and has steered the business successfully through the important early stages of its development. He is qualified as both a Chartered and Certified Accountant and additionally is a Registered Auditor.

    Mark is an enthusiastic business networker being a member of the Salford Quays group and was proud to win the highly contested title of B4B Co-ordinator in 2004. He is committed to expanding both our own business and that of clients through referrals and introductions.

    Outside of work Mark enjoys socialising, travel and dining out with his partner Joanne. An avid motor racing fan his ideal would be to sip champagne whilst he watches Lewis Hamilton win the Grand Prix in Monte Carlo.

    SHARON NASH

    With more than 30 years experience in the field of personal taxation, Sharon provides experience from both sides of the profession having spent 18 years with HMRC before 'turning from a gamekeeper into a poacher’. During her time with HMRC, Sharon gained invaluable experience in PAYE Tax compliance Teams working on large city based Institutions and on the affairs of High Networth Individuals.

    Transferring these skills to the accountancy profession Sharon joined the Manchester based accountancy firm GLF and worked at Baker Tilly following the merger of those two firms. From there Sharon was invited to join John Frenkel to head the personal tax team at Frenkels Chartered Accountants and later accepted an appointment as Tax Associate. She joined with her fellow Associates in a friendly MBO to acquire the accountancy and taxation services of Frenkels Chartered Accountants forming Simpson Burgess Nash where she is CEO.

    Developing the expertise of the personal tax department resulted in our personal injury clients benefiting from the knowledge and experience introduced. Since taking over responsibility for this work Sharon has introduced new services such as the requests to HMRC for clearance for family members to receive payments out of damages awards exempt from tax and national insurance.

    A member of the Simpson Burgess Nash networking team Sharon is an active member of Leigh B4B – this group somewhat unusually meets alternate Monday evenings.

    Professionally Sharon is qualified both by experience but also has Bookkeeping and ATT qualifications, she successfully completed the Dale Carnegie Management Course and has a BA (Hons) in Humanities with History from the Open University where she is now studying for a BSc.

    Married to Ken, "for enough years that the anniversaries all achieve gem status", they have one married daughter, Nicola, who works for her dad. Sharon’s diverse interests include travel, BWFC – where she is a season ticket holder, also she is an active supporter of Bury Cancer Support Group, she holds memberships with Whitefield Lacemakers and Radcliffe Tangent.
